Job Description

This interesting, varied role includes clinic, ward and theatre/procedure room duties. Having gynaecological experience is essential, however you’ll be supported and encouraged to rotate across all areas and develop a multi-skilled approach.

1. To liaise with the medical and scientific staff with regards to the management of patient care.

2. To attend local small clinical and clinical governance meetings

3. To actively assist in the teaching of patients and visitors to the unit.

4. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times and ensure patients’ rights and dignity are upheld at all times

5. To have empathy and concern for our patients and offer support on a clinical and psychological basis

6. To assist in the daily management of patients attending the unit, assessing individual patient needs, fears and anxieties and responding appropriately.

7. To assist in the clinical procedures of Egg recovery and, surgical sperm recovery.

8. To assist in the admission and discharge of patients following procedures and removal of cannulas.

9. To take part in all aspects of venepuncture and assist in the interpretation and explanation of results.

10. Provide support and guidance, make courtesy calls to patients by manning the phone on a rota basis.

11. To teach patients to give their own injections, and provide specialist knowledge in health promotion and pre conceptual care.

12. To administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as required in the treatment cycle.

13. To support the clinical team in the management of early pregnancy.

 14. To ensure regulations and policies for the control of drugs are understood, and are part of work practice.

15. To take part in patient information events, showing patients round the unit and answering any questions they may have.

16. To be able to log concerns or incidences on the Datix system

17. To prepare and maintain clinical records legibly

18. To participate in a five day rota including bank holidays as required.

19. To ensure patients have all screening blood tests results up to date and accounts settled before treatment.

20. To understand and comply with the HFEA requirements for informed consent

21. To actively assist in the collection of data to support audit activity and evidence based practice.

22. To maintain personal development and keep up to date with nursing competencies, continually preparing for revalidation.



1. To comply with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority’s Code of Practice, the Care Standards Act 2008, the Care Standards Regulations 2010 and the Data Protection Act, with special reference to patient confidentiality.

2. To comply with the Health and Safety policies with particular reference to procedures to be followed in the event of a fire and to report all accidents and untoward incidents to the Health and Safety officer.

3. To undertake mandatory training as required, Updating modules on CARE learning lab as released, including manual handling, fire and health and safety.

4. Actively participate in CARE’s performance management processes and competency assessment processes.

5. To comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.

6. To comply with NMC regulations regarding revalidation and maintain all standards of professionalism, i.e. RCN, to ensure personal professional protection.

  • RN or equivalent, e.g. RM



  • Proven post-registration experience

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to record and retrieve information using a computer

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients over the telephone, face-to-face and in writing
