Clinic Director - Full Time 37.5 hours per week.


We are looking for an experienced Clinic Director / practice manager to effectively lead a multi-disciplinary team of experienced IVF professionals in order to ensure that operational and financial targets and regulatory requirements are met. Substantial focus on day to day operations will be expected, and in return significant autonomy will be given to lead and develop a high performing team.


The clinic is part of the CARE Fertility group, one of the leading independent providers of fertility treatment in the UK. Reporting into the Operations Director, the company structure includes strong head office support and a peer support network.


We are looking for candidates with well developed leadership skills, experience of project delivery and facilities management expertise. Proven abilities in driving top and bottom line performance and in identifying and developing business growth opportunities are important as this is an area where the right candidate can add significant value to this role.

 Team Leadership

1.1 Lead a diverse team of direct reports with a leadership style consistent with CARE’s values.

1.2 Plan and direct the clinic’s activities to deliver agreed KPIs and targets while maintaining standards of quality, culture, regulatory and legislative compliance.

1.3 Build effective relationships with key clinic stakeholders ensuring effective cross-departmental communication.

1.4 Lead by example and be visible throughout the clinic on a daily basis.

1.5 Recruit, induct, train and develop team members in accordance with CARE policies. Deliver effective performance management.

1.6 Ensure that clear development pathways are identified and that succession plans are in place for key management roles.

Operational Functions

2.1 To oversee diary management, working with the heads of department to ensure staffing resources are used efficiently and can adapt appropriately to patient demand.

2.2 Oversee the maintenance of the physical facility with regard to appropriate legislative requirements to ensure the premises are suitable and fit for purpose.

2.3 To be overall responsible for estates management (including contractors, PPM, security, fire, Health and Safety etc.)

2.4 To ensure effective use of the CARE Clinical Information System in line with clinical and operational protocols.

2.5 To attend and contribute to Group management meetings.

Business Development

3.1 Develop an understanding of both the NHS and private fertility market dynamics in the geographic area surrounding your clinic.

3.2 Liaise with the Group Marketing team on the preparation of marketing plans and drive the implementation of agreed activities.

3.3 Develop business plans where new opportunities are identified e.g. satellite clinic opportunities.

3.4 Liaise with and maintain relationships with NHS/CCG Commissioners, submit tenders and ensure effective management of CCG contracts.

3.5 Ensure that CARE is consistently presented with a strong, positive image to external stakeholders, and that all external relationships are to the benefit of CARE.

Financial Performance

4.1 Work with the Group Finance team on the setting of budgets and annual plans in order to ensure they are both robust and deliverable.

4.2 Take ownership and accountability for the clinic’s P&L, focusing on top-line growth and bottom-line outcome.

4.3 Be responsible for the clinic’s performance reporting progress to the Executive Management team as required.

Regulatory Compliance

5.1 Ensure compliance with  the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority’s Code of Practice, the Care Standards Act 2008, the Care Standards Regulations 2010 and the Data Protection Act.

5.2 To implement corporate policies, lead on local policy development as appropriate and ensure compliance with clinical protocols and operational policies and procedures.

5.3 If necessary, undertake the role of CQC Responsible Person for the clinic and perform the relevant duties involved in this.

5.4 To comply with the Health and Safety and Infection Prevention policies, and to report all accidents and untoward incidents to the Health and Safety officer.

5.5 Oversee the ‘Complaints and concerns Process’ in accordance with CARE policies and regulatory directives, reporting all complaints or concerns received on the Company’s complaints and concerns database, and reviewing them at in-house meetings on a regular basis and ensuring that ‘lessons learnt’ are implemented and developed upon.

5.6 Oversee the ‘Quality Management System’ in the Clinic, ensuring relevant personnel are given protected time to carry out duties that fall under this heading, such as auditing.

5.7 Be overall responsible for the management of reported incidents. Ensure that all incidents are reported and then investigated appropriately, with lessons learnt disseminated to the wider team (and group when required).

5.8 To be the Accountable Officer within the Clinic and ensure compliance with the Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006 in line with Corporate Policy (Corp CS 24a) .

5.9 To oversee the risk management within the Clinic and follow the CARE wide risk management framework.
